The makers of Celebrations advent calendars have received brutal backlash after fans discovered what they’ve labelled a “sick joke” behind it’s doors.
Chocolate lovers have had been forced to tuck into a Bounty bar for the fourth day in a row – and they’re furious.
For the last two years, the popular Celebrations calendar has caused uproar for putting the controversial chocolate behind door number one.
Last year, the calendar, which is owned by Mars, took it a step further as it put the chocolate behind door number two too.
But this year, fans say the cruel joke has gone too far, with some saying it’s “ruined Christmas.”
A number of people complained about their disappointment on Twitter, with one saying: “Hi @UKCelebrations please could I have a written apology for you ruining my advent??? My legal team will be in touch (honestly one more Bounty and I’m throwing it out).”
A second said: “I have a Celebrations advent calendar and if I open that thing tomorrow and there’s a Bounty, well that’s just gonna be 2020 summed up,” while another asked: “Is this some sick joke?”
” @UKCelebrations my kids have been mugged off with 4 Bountys in a row! I hope there’s not a 5th one tomorrow! #Cancelchristmas,” exclaimed a fourth.
And one said: “You’re killing my Christmas spirit at this point.”
It has even been accused of “ruining Christmas”.
Cunning makers Mars replied to angry tweets with a number of creative memes using Bounty, one of which included ‘LOL’ spelled out with the chocolates.
A spokesperson for Mars said: “We all have our favourites. Bounty might be the last chocolate left in the tub for some people, but for others, two advent Bounty treats in a row get their season off to a great start!
“Don’t worry, there’s something for everyone in the calendar – no peeking on what comes next!”
Chloe Smith, Mars Wrigley’s Head of Christmas said: “Who were we kidding thinking that BOUNTY® wouldn’t be up to its festive tricks in 2020?!
“The BOUNTY® team went coco-nuts when they found out they weren’t behind door one this year. Needless to say, CELEBRATIONS® HQ has been over-run with BOUNTY® Lovers who decided 2020 needs a bit more tropical fun.”
Despite the backlash, research conducted by Mars Wrigley UK revealed for almost one fifth of the nation (19 per cent), Bounty is their top choice this festive season.
