Woman ‘hasn’t driven for a week’ after terrifying find inside car door handle

Finding a daddy long-legs bumping into a window is usually enough to send many Brits running for safety as spiders begin to seek shelter in our home during the winter months.

But over in Australia the creepy crawlies they are faced with are slightly more extreme, and one woman’s terrifying experience has gone viral after being shared on Facebook.

She shared a photo of her car in Armidale, New South Wales, with the message: “Thought it was hairy caterpillars at first. Haven’t used my car for a week.”

A mysterious creature can be seen hiding under the door handle, before a close up clearly shows the hairy legs and body of a large arachnid, which has since been identified as a branded huntsman.

The post was shared to the 31,000 members of the Australian spider identification page on Facebook, where moderators said they had to delete many of the comments for swearing as other users shared their extreme reactions to spotting the spider, which appeared to be attempting to find shelter from the blistering heat.

The vehicle’s owner revealed she had spotted the spider “at the last moment” before grabbing the handle, and one person commented to say: “I like spiders but I’m sure I’d need new undies if I put my hand under there unknowingly.”

A second joke: “That’s not your car any more, it has a new owner. Might as well hand the keys over.”

Another said: “This has now given me massive anxiety.”

And someone else added: “Poor thing might have been burning on the metal of the car and seeking shade… or something a bit cooler and got stuck there waiting it out after that heat over the weekend.”
